Frequently Asked Questions
The questions people ask before they call
If yours is not here, it is a good thing to bring to the consultation call.
Do you take insurance?
I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. The short version is that I do not want an insurance company deciding how many sessions you need, what they are about, or whether your records are fair game. I provide a monthly superbill with the codes your insurer needs, which you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of the session fee once the out-of-network deductible is met. It is worth calling your plan and asking about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits before we begin.
What does therapy cost?
Individual therapy is $300 for 50 minutes. Couples therapy is $400 for 60 minutes. Both are available by telehealth or in person in Santa Monica. The initial consultation is free.
How long will I be in therapy?
It depends on what we are working on. Focused work around a transition or a specific stressor can be relatively short. Long-standing attachment, trauma, and emotional regulation patterns generally take longer, and I would rather say that at the start than imply otherwise. You are never locked into anything, and we review openly whether the work is still useful.
What if therapy has felt judgmental or disappointing before?
That history is welcome material here, not something to get past first. Tell me what did not work, what felt wrong, and what you needed instead. I would rather adjust in the first month than have you quietly conclude this is another version of the same thing. If I am getting it wrong, I need you to tell me. I can handle it.
How do you handle privacy and discretion?
Sessions are confidential within the limits California law sets, and I take discretion seriously for clients whose work is visible or sensitive. Telehealth removes the waiting room entirely, scheduling can be arranged around public commitments, and because I do not bill insurance, no insurer holds your treatment records or reviews your care. For people whose career is public, that matters more than any waiting-room sign ever could.
I have almost no room in my schedule. Can this work?
Usually yes. Telehealth removes travel, and a 50-minute session can be held from a hotel, a dressing room, a car, or a home office as long as you are physically in California and somewhere private. We find a recurring slot that fits the shape of your week rather than hoping one appears.
Do you work with teens, couples, or families?
Yes. I see adults, teens, couples, and families. Couples sessions are 60 minutes and are often useful when a relationship pattern is best worked on with both people in the room.
Where are you licensed?
California only, as a licensed Psychologist (PsyD), license PSY35842, active through April 17, 2027. You need to be physically located in California at the time of each session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Changes and cancellations need 48 hours' notice. Sessions canceled inside that window are charged at the full fee. It is less a punishment than a way to keep both of us honest about the time we set aside.
How do I start?
Book a free consultation through the booking page. We talk about what brings you here, what you have tried, and whether working together makes sense. If I am not the right fit, I will say so and point you toward someone better suited.
