Therapy in Santa Monica, California

Santa Monica is where the office actually is. This is the one city on this site where in-person work is not a drive at all — it is the room itself, the chair by the window, the box of tissues you will pretend you do not need in the first session and reach for in the third.

People who live here tend to arrive in one of two states. Either they have been in Santa Monica long enough to feel a little stuck inside a life that looks, from the outside, like the reward for everything they worked for. Or they moved here recently for a job, and discovered that a beautiful zip code does not dissolve a pattern they carried in from somewhere else.

Getting Here

Getting to a Santa Monica session

If you live in Santa Monica, this is a walk, a short bike ride, or a drive you will barely register. That matters more than it sounds. The single most common reason therapy stops working is that it becomes logistically annoying — and a thirty-five-minute crawl each way turns a fifty-minute session into a two-hour obligation that your Thursday starts quietly resenting.

Living nearby also means you can protect the fifteen minutes after a session, which is where a surprising amount of the useful thinking happens.

Who I See

Who comes in from around here

A lot of Santa Monica clients work in tech offices between Colorado and Olympic, in agencies south of Pico, or in healthcare at Saint John's and Providence. Others are parents whose lives run on a Franklin or Roosevelt school calendar and who have not had an uninterrupted hour since 2019.

There is also a steady group who came to Santa Monica specifically to slow down and are quietly furious that it did not work. Living near the water is lovely. It is not a treatment plan.

In the Room

What Santa Monica tends to bring into the room

Every neighborhood has a house style of suffering. These are the ones I hear most often from people who live here.

The wellness ceiling

You have done the cold plunge, the breathwork, the app with the streak counter. It all helped a little and none of it touched the thing underneath. That is not a failure of discipline; those tools regulate a nervous system, they do not resolve a pattern.

Expensive isolation

Rents here select for people who moved away from where they are from. Many clients have a full calendar and nobody who would notice if they went quiet for a week.

The visible life

In a small, walkable city you run into people. Clients who work in entertainment, medicine, or law often want a therapist who understands that discretion is not vanity — it is a professional condition of their life.

Telehealth

In person or by video, both are real options

Santa Monica clients often start in the office and then use video on weeks when a deposition, a school pickup, or a fever makes leaving the house absurd. Mixing the two is normal and I do not treat a video week as a lesser session.

If you live anywhere else in California, we can work entirely by telehealth. The office is here; the license covers the whole state.
