Pacific Palisades, California

Therapy for Pacific Palisades, California

The Palisades is the hardest of these pages to write lightly, and I am not going to try. Many people there are living through a period of disruption, loss, and displacement that is not abstract and is not over, and it sits in every other part of life whether or not it is the stated reason for calling.

What I offer is not a community response or a disaster program. It is individual therapy with someone who will not ask you to be further along than you are, and who understands that recovery from this kind of upheaval is measured in years and does not proceed in order.

Overcast sky meeting a still horizon line

Getting Here

Down the hill to Santa Monica

From the village it is Sunset down to Pacific Coast Highway, or Chautauqua to Ocean, and the office is roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes away depending on the hour and on current road conditions along the coast.

For clients who are currently living somewhere other than their own address — with family, in a rental elsewhere in the county — the trip may look nothing like that. If you are anywhere in California, we can meet by video and you do not have to explain the logistics to me twice.

Who I See

Who comes from the Palisades

Families with deep roots in the community, often two or three generations in the same few streets. Retired and semi-retired professionals. Parents of teenagers who are trying to hold steady in front of their children while managing something they have no template for.

I also see people who are not personally displaced and feel they have no standing to be struggling. That comparison is common after community-wide events and it is not a useful measure of whether you need support.

In the Room

What tends to come in from here

Themes I hear from Palisades clients, stated plainly.

Grief without a single object

Not one loss but a dozen: routines, streets, neighbors, the version of the future you assumed. Ambiguous loss is harder to grieve precisely because there is no ceremony that matches it.

Trauma responses that arrive late

People frequently function well through the emergency and come apart months afterward. That sequence is common and it is not a sign of weakness or of having been fine before.

Holding it together for others

Parents who have not let themselves feel anything since it started, because someone had to drive, call, file, and reassure. We make room for the part that got postponed.

Telehealth

Video, in person, or moving between them

Telehealth is available across California, which matters for anyone temporarily living outside the neighborhood. Sessions continue uninterrupted regardless of where in the state you are staying.

When and if coming in suits you better, the office is in Santa Monica, a short drive down the coast.
