Online Therapy for Sacramento
Sacramento is video only, and the thing Sacramento clients mention most in a first session is not distance. It is that they have already looked locally, found a two-month waitlist or a therapist who knows three people they work with, and decided that a psychologist four hundred miles south is in some ways the safer choice.
That instinct is reasonable. Sacramento is a company town with a very particular company, and a lot of professional lives there run through overlapping circles — the Capitol, the agencies, the lobbying firms, the health systems. Talking honestly is harder when the person across from you might be at the same fundraiser in April.

How Sessions Run
Working by video into Sacramento
Secure video, weekly, at a consistent time. Clients join from East Sacramento bungalows, Elk Grove and Folsom home offices, and occasionally a parked car near the Capitol during a session week when nothing else is possible. The format holds up fine in all of it.
Sacramento also has a legislative rhythm that nothing else in the state shares. Sessions get frantic in August, quiet in the fall, frantic again in the run-up to a budget. We build the schedule around that instead of pretending your year is evenly distributed, which usually means protecting the hour hardest during the weeks you are most tempted to drop it.
Who I See
Who I see from Sacramento
State employees and agency staff, legislative and policy people, lobbyists, attorneys, plus nurses and physicians at UC Davis, Sutter, and Kaiser, teachers, and people running small businesses in Midtown and the surrounding suburbs.
I also see people who grew up in the region, left for the coast, and came back for a mortgage they could actually carry — and who are now reckoning with a kind of ambivalence about that choice they have not said out loud to anyone, because everyone around them considers it obviously the right call.
In the Room
What Sacramento brings into a session
Discretion as a professional condition
In a city of overlapping networks, privacy is not vanity. Private-pay work with no insurance company receiving your records exists in part for exactly this.
Cyclical intensity
Months of sprint followed by months of comedown wear a nervous system differently than steady pressure does. Recovery has to be scheduled, not hoped for.
Mission fatigue
People who took a public-service job for good reasons often burn out on the machinery rather than the work, then feel guilty about being tired of something worthwhile.
California Only
Licensure and format, plainly
I am licensed in California only, PSY35842, and can only meet when you are physically located in the state. Sacramento is fine. A week at a conference in Denver is not, and Reno — closer to you than Los Angeles is — is across a state line and therefore out.
There is no Sacramento office and I am not going to imply otherwise. My office is in Santa Monica, six hours south, and video is the real format for our work together.
