Long Beach, California
Online Therapy for Long Beach
Long Beach is thirty miles down the coast and functionally much further, because the 405 between us does not have an off-peak anymore. So this is video work, and for most Long Beach clients that is the better answer regardless of the freeway.
Long Beach also has a shape of life I see less of elsewhere on the Westside: shift work. Port operations, hospital rotations, first responders, airline and logistics crews. When your Tuesday is sometimes a Saturday and your body has been on three different sleep schedules this month, a therapy slot anchored to rush hour is not a plan. A slot you can take from home at 7am after a night shift is.

How Sessions Run
Video that fits a rotating schedule
Sessions are secure video, and with Long Beach clients we spend more time than usual getting the time right. People log in from Belmont Shore apartments, Bixby Knolls houses, and occasionally a quiet corner of a break area — with the caveat that I would rather move a session than have you take it somewhere you cannot speak freely.
Shift workers also benefit from something simple: not driving. If you have just finished twelve hours, the difference between an hour of freeway and opening a laptop is the difference between attending and canceling. I would rather have you tired on video than absent and well rested.
Who I See
Who I see from Long Beach
Nurses and staff from Long Beach Memorial and the surrounding systems, port and logistics workers, firefighters and dispatchers, teachers, CSULB faculty and graduate students, and small-business owners along Fourth Street and Atlantic.
There is also a large group of people who grew up in Long Beach, still live within a few miles of their family, and are trying to change something about how that family operates without detonating it. Doing that work while everyone is still at Sunday dinner is harder than doing it from four hundred miles away, and it deserves more credit than it gets.
In the Room
What Long Beach brings into a session
Exhaustion misread as apathy
Years of rotating shifts flatten mood, memory, and patience. That is physiology before it is psychology, and treating it as laziness helps nobody.
Anger arriving first
For many clients the irritability shows up long before the sadness does. Anger is often the most accessible feeling, not the truest one, and we work backward from it.
Changing while staying close
Setting a boundary with people you see weekly is a different task than setting one at a distance. It is slower, it is doable, and it usually costs something in the short term.
California Only
Format and licensure
My office is in Santa Monica and it remains an option if you are on the Westside for another reason, but I would not build a weekly plan around that drive and I will say so if you propose it.
I am licensed in California only, PSY35842. Sessions require that you are physically in California at the time, which for travel-heavy jobs is worth flagging early — a layover in Phoenix is not a session location, and I will reschedule rather than bend that.
